POCKY FLAVORS

I am in the middle of a site redesign, I will be reformatting this page soon so that it has new graphics as well as more information on each flavor. I will eventually add entries for the "normal" flavors of Pocky as well. Eventually. ;)

Kurogo, "Black Five" Pocky
The five flavors listed on the box are Kurogoma = Black sesame seed, Kurogome = Black rice, Kuromatsunomi = Black pine nuts, Kuromame = Black soy bean, Kurokarin = Black Chinese quince (not neccesarily in that order).
Goka, "Five Fruit" Pocky
The five flavors listed on the box are Anzu = Apricot, Momo = Peach, Natsume = Date, Sumomo = Plum, Kuri = Chestnut (not neccesarily in that order).
Thanks to Trumby for the translation on both of these.
Kurogoma Pocky,
The original Sesame Pocky. The precursor to Kurogo. These flavors were only out a very limited time.
Kinako Pocky,
a soy flavored pocky that wasn't out very long. It was reminiscent of peanut butter.
Decorer Pocky,
Pocky with the icing of a decoration cake. The commercials for this pocky were usually romantic. Super sugary, it had the regular coating of pocky with a curl of cake icing around it. This long time favorite is no longer in production.
Poare,
is the new version of Reverse Pocky. The flavor pictured is Banana Custard but it also comes with chocolate filling.

Melon Pocky
One of the Smallbox Fruit flavors that has the collectible riddles.
Grape Pocky
The most popular of the Smallbox Fruit flavors. The interior wrapper of a Grape Pocky box is pictured below. that has the collectible riddles.
I have made a larger image of the boxes and the side panel of a grape box to make it available for translation.
Grape Questions Honey Milk questions
For both sets of questions, click to see the full sized scan.

I have included Thai Pocky here so that the symbol can be easily recognized and (in my opinion) avoided.
It has a slightly plastic texture and odd after taste.
The strawberry thai Pocky boxes have exactly the same logo and they are the same size.
The other translation project I have been interested in is deciphering the 4 kanji used to make the Pocky "Summer Seal". You'll notice that the summer flavors (pine cream, coconut, and even the old choco banana) all carried this seal on the front of the box.
The newer scans of the summer specials have a redesign of the logo with the same characters. I'll have scans of the new boxes (Coconut and Tahitian Vanilla) soon.
Pine Cream,
the prize of any pineapple lover. Imagine the classic strawberry chunk with actual pieces of pineapple instead of strawberry. It's great.
Coconut,
Though I can't stand the stuff it returns every summer and is quite popular.
Chocolate Banana,
The most popular flavor of the summer specials. Unfortunately the year this ran was Pocky club's first year and we have not seen it since.
Murasaki,
literally translates to purple, in reference to the purple colored sweet potatoes that are traditional Japanese dish in the springtime. The most ornate box by far, the pattern is reminiscent of an elegant kimono.
The Strawberry Cream flavor available in grocery stores across the country. The good old fashioned Strawberry Chunk. This is officially labeled Strawberry Tsuba by the store's paperwork. It is far superior to the new one because of the size of the chunks.
Chocolate Pocky, the original, this box is from 2007. the packaging has been improved. the new Strawberry Chunk. It's hardly chunky now but it is a bit better than the smallbox creams.
Men's Pocky is dark chocolate, or as the boxes usually say "bitter chocolate". This box is circa 2007. Marble Pocky, Green Tea Flavor, circa 2007/early 2008.
The new Pocky Mousse, Green Tea Flavor. Circa 2007, but I think it is still being made in 2008. The old Pocky Mousse, Green Tea Flavor. For a few years this was the only version of Green Tea Pocky available in the USA. This box was circa 2006.
The original Reverse Pocky, this one has chocolate on the inside and chocolate and on the outside. This was circa 2005. The original Reverse Pocky, this one has strawberry on the inside and chocolate on the outside. This was circa 2005.
The second version of Reverse Pocky, Poare came out in late 2005 and only lasted about a year. This one is chocolate. The second version of Reverse Pocky, Poare came out in late 2005 and only lasted about a year. This one is banana custard.
This is the newest version of Reverse Pocky, PariPo came out in 2007. This one is chocolate. This is the newest version of Reverse Pocky, PariPo came out in 2007. This one is peanut flavored.
